Mike Boulay -4- May 22, 2008
CAM - There are no anticipated ventilation shafts during the life of the operation as
defined on amended page 2.05-2.
10. DRMS - The application did not contain plans for methane degasification if needed.
Please update the application with a discussion of methane degasification. If
appropriate, the application should be updated with plans for methane de-gas wells.
CAM - It is unlikely methane degas wells will be required during the life of the operation
as defined on amended page 2.05-2. This is because the coal seam is not saturated.
Methane is trapped in the coal under saturated conditions and released as the coal is
extracted. In dry conditions, methane escapes from the seam over the eons so less
methane is released during mining.
11. DRMS - It would be helpful to have a single map showing all of the surface disturbed
area in addition to the detailed maps already submitted (15-1 through 15-9). Please
update the application with a surface disturbed area map at an appropriate scale
(1 "=1000').
CAM - A new map 15-10 was developed to show all of the surface disturbed area. At a
1"=600' scale the map shows the arrangement of the surface facilities but not in much
detail. Enclosed is new Map 15-10 to be incorporated into the permit application
package.
Sincerely,
J. E.
