The intake portals and fans are located <br /> • along the outcrop of the Middle Sandstone . The No . 2 mine <br /> office and entry are downslope from the No . 1 mine portal <br /> area . A tunnel is used for access to the Middle bed in <br /> Mancos Shale. The road connecting the No . 1 and No . 2 <br /> mine facilities traverses Mancos Shale- and Rollins Sandstone . <br /> The same road is used for traffic from the preparation <br /> plant area to the Nos . 1 and 2 mines . <br /> The preparation plant area is situated <br /> beside Coal Creek, in approximately the center of the <br /> basin. The surface strata of the area is Mancos Shale , <br /> overlain in places by alluvial deposits . <br /> The rock tunnel, which is being constructed <br /> . in two bores of 10 ' height by 16 ' width, will extend from <br /> a surface entry approximately one mile from the preparation <br /> plant area , at 8 , 650 ' elevation, to the B and Middle beds . <br /> The tunnel will intersect the B bed on the main slope of <br /> the No . 1 mine, then continue another 2 , 000 ' to intersect <br /> the Middle bed . At the point of intersection with the B <br /> bed , additional entries will be driven to the Nos . 3 , 4 and <br /> 5 mines , and an underground storage area will be constructed . <br /> The tunnel entry will be made in Mancos <br /> Shale. The tunnel bores will extend at grades of 4 . 1% <br /> through shales , siltstones , mudsto.nes , sandstones , and an <br /> igneous dike, to the B and Middle beds . Intersection with <br /> the B bed will be at 9 , 130 ' elevation, immediately above the <br /> 35 <br />
