General statement
The coal deposits mined by _id-Continent ' s -
Coal Basin operations occur in the Mesay.erde formation.
dating . from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era . Two
seams are mined , the "B" bed and the ",fiddle" bed . Two
other coal seams in the 114asaverde formation have also beer-
evaluated and are considered uneconomic to mine utilizing
current mining methods . They are the "A" and "Plac:ita"
beds .
Mid-Continent operates a complex of give
mines in the two developed seams or beds . dines No . 1 , 3) , 4
and 5 are in the B bed and nine No . 2 _s in the fiddle bed .
The B bed is lower .
