• Surface runoff from the mine plan area contri-
butes to the Colorado River drainage system. In addition,
some recharge of groundwater aquifers occurs within the
area.
Mining activity has had relatively little
effect on environmental resources . Future activity will
have less effect on environmental resources because completion
of the rock tunnel project will allow subterranean transport
of men, equipment and coal between the mines and the prepara-
tion plant area; underground workings are not expected to
disturb the overlieing surface due to depth and the character
of the intervening strata; and additional surface disturbances
• are not anticipated .
