UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
FOREST SERVICE
Paonia Ranger District
Paonia, Colorado 81428
2820
September 16, 1980
r
Mid-Continent Resources, Inc.
Attn: Mr. George E. Wear
P.O. Box 1334
Glenwood Springs, CO 81601
L
Dear Mr. Wear:
We have little site specific information concerning the areas you
listed in your 8/29/80 letter. Here is some information that might
be useful.
Timber Management - No timber operations are planned for the area
at the present time due to marginal timber stands and inaccessibility
of stands for timber sales.
Grazing - There are three grazing allotments within the areas you
described on the Paonia District.
• Deadhorse S&G - 2,400 sheep owned by Lee Sperry .
Huntsman S&G - 800 sheep owned by Patsantaras Land and Livestock Co.
Lee Creek S&G - 750 sheep owned by Patsantaras Land and Livestock Co.
Wildlife Habitat - Those areas described are fairly high in elevation
and would not contain any winter range habitat for big game animals.
Those areas most probably supply summer range habitat for deer, elk,
and small game species. There is no known threatened or endangered
species habitat in those areas you described.
The information above applies to those lands in the areas you described
west of the Gunnison - Pitkin County line. That portion of the area
in Pitkin County is located in the White River National Forest. We
assume that you have contacted the Sopris District about the area in
the White River National Forest.
Sincerely,
/ N L.
