UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
FOREST SERVICE
White River National Forest
• Sopris Ranger District
P.O. Box 248
Carbondale CO 81623 2800
October 14, 1980
r _
Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. I As
Attn: Mr. George E. Wear
P.O. Box 1334
818 Colorado Avenue
Glenwood Springs CO 81601
Dear Mr. Clear:
In response to your September 16, 1980 letter and a letter from
Diane Delaney dated August 8, 1980, I have listed the following
information.
I and Acting Forest Supervisor George Morris see no conflict with
your proposed post mining land use and Forest Service land manage-
ment direction for the area. Your post mining use permit is so
far down the road, however, that it is difficult to say what con-
ditions would be at that time. The ski area proposal would have
• to follow the Colorado Review Process which involves several
government entities and would require extensive involvement by
the Forest. This letter is not an approval of a specific project,
therefore, but does assure you that your basic post mining .use
does not conflict with our land management direction..
You had also asked for resource information. There are no plans
to harvest timber in the area because of marginal timber stands,
steep slopes, and access problems. There are also no plans to
develop facilities concerned with recreation. Marc Bosch, District
Wildlife Biologist, has prepared a summary of the range and wild-
life situation and history which is attached to this letter.
If I can help you in any further ways, please let me know.
Sincerely,
JACK G. TROYER
District Ranger
Enclosure
6200-11 (1169)
33
