Forestry/timber : There are 5 , 190 acres of <br /> forested land in Coal Basin consisting of the following : <br /> Aspen stands - There are 3 , 646 . 9 acres of <br /> Aspen stands in the Basin which are of generally poor form, <br /> and at present have little commercial value . <br /> Conifer stands - There are 1 , 430 acres in <br /> Coal Basin forested by Spruce and Fir trees . Sixty percent <br /> of the stands consist of poorly stocked mature stands with <br /> Aspen intermixed and 40% of the stands are in the pole and <br /> sapling size classes . Only 220 acres are loggable with the <br /> tractor logging system presently used in commercial timber <br /> operations . Road construction costs and environmental <br /> factors makes it uneconomical and infeasible to log the <br /> small, scattered stands of timber . <br /> Mixed Aspen , Conifer stands - There are <br /> 1063 . 1 acres forested in Aspen, Spruce and Fir trees which <br /> are classified as poorly stocked, mature trees . <br /> Source : U .
