Effluent Limitation Exceedances
March 2008
Parameter Limit Type Effluent Analytical

I Limitation Result
Total suspended solids Daily 30 mg/L 48 mg/L
(TSS) maximum 3/7/08
30-day average 20 m /L 33 mg/L
It should be noted that less than 106,000 gallons of water were discharged in March
2008. This is well below the permitted discharge volume of 930,000 gallons (based on
the 0.03 mgd permit limit over 31 days).
Two exceedances occurred for total suspended solids (TSS); one exceedance each for the
average and daily maximum effluent limitations. As discussed above, the mine has been
dewatered and water is being pumped to the treatment plant as it collects in the existing
mine sump, located in the mine workings. The mine sump contains a considerable
amount of sediment that is being pumped out of the mine with the mine water. Energy
Fuels has been rehabilitating the mine workings in the area of the mine sump during the
months of February and March. This has lead to the mine water containing abnormally
high amounts of sediment. Currently, the sump area is being rehabilitated. Because we
received the February 2008 sample results in late March, the TSS exceedances were not
known until after all of the March 2008 discharges had taken place. Energy Fuels has
since added a polymer flocculent at the untreated water tank to control the TSS levels in
the discharge. Visual examination of the treated discharge water shows noticeable
improvement over the February and March water quality. Analytical results have not yet
been received for samples taken in April 2008.
In past months, selenium and radium 226+228 levels have exceeded the discharge permit
limitations. Recent addition of sodium metabisulfite has been effective in controlling the
selenium levels without sacrificing effective treatment of radium 226+228. The radium
226+228 levels have been below the permit limitation since January 18, 2008.
Dissolved iron and sulfate levels are being monitoring in the discharge samples at the
request of WQCD. Dissolved iron in the discharge samples ranged from <0.03 to 0.22
mg/L. Sulfate in the discharge samples ranged from 102 to 164 mg/L.
i,'ncrgv 1`uels, Inc.
4b1?'14 .
