Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division) has completed review of the
2007 Annual Reclamation Report (ARR) for the Southfield Mine. Acreage values
reported appear accurate and represent the current reclamation status at the mine.
No additional disturbance or reclamation work was completed during 2007. Areas yet to
be reclaimed include 8.4 acres of land occupied by temporary sediment ponds at the
main site and at the loadout. Activity at the site during the calendar year included road
grading, ditch and culvert maintenance, and silt fence repair Weed control efforts for
Russian knapweed were limited to mechanical methods due to demand on the Fremont
County Weed Control Agency. The locations of these activities are noted on Map1
submitted with the report. One issue not mentioned in the report was the sinkhole
identified in April 2007 and subsequently repaired as documented in the Division's
inspection reports for April and May 2007.
For the record, the first growing season for this site was in 2004. The 2007 growing
season was the fourth growing season for the majority of the facility area reclamation.
Qualitatively, the reclamation success can be rated as good to excellent in all areas.
We have no further questions at this time. Thank you for completing your monitoring
and reporting as required.
