(Mid-Continent) to provide some ad-
ditional data on ground water hydrology of the area of the new
I refuse pile at the Sutey property. The information is speci-
fied in a letter by'' MLRD to Mid-Continent dated March 5, 1984,
Subject: Permit Revision, New Refuse Pile, File No. C-017-81.
IMid-Continent instructed Geo-Hydro Consulting, Inc.
(Geo-Hydro) to provide necessary data pertaining to ground
Iwater hydrology asispecified in the above referenced letter..
` The following items are addressed in this report:
1
1. The depth '.below the surface and horizontal extent of
I • i the water table of the alluvial aquifer within the. permit
area ;
I2. A description of the recharge, storage, and discharge
characteristics of the alluvial aquifer;
!I
3. Analysis of the surface and ground water information
and an evaluation of the probable hydrologic consequences of
refuse disposal in ', this area.
The term "alluvial aquifer" is used by MLRD. As it will
be shown later in' this report, we feel that ground water
bearing strata encountered during the investigation of the
refuse pile cannot be properly called an alluvial aquifer.
2. 0 GEOLOGY
The geology of the area is shown on the attached g gy Plate
1, Geotechnical Conditions of Proposed Waste rDisposal. Site. On
this plate , two figures show the geology of the area in dif-
ferent scales. Figure B, General Geotechnical Map of Waste
Disposal Area, shows the overall geologic setting. The area is
underlain Mancos Shale. Mancos Shale forms several• important? ridges, trending in a north-south direction. Rocks of over-
-
14
GEO-HYDRO CONSULTING,INC.
