• SEDT..I= AVID DRATVi'AGE CCT I <br /> 11 11TES <br /> FOR <br /> Coal Mines 3, 4, & 5 <br /> Coal Basin, Pitkin County <br /> Introduction <br /> The Coal Basin Mines 3, 4, and-5 are owned and operated by Mid-Continent <br /> Rasources,- Inc. at Carbondale, Colorado. These three coal mines are in Coal - <br /> Basin in Western Pitkin County :,eithin WIdte River National Forest. <br /> Access to the area is south. and west frozza Glenwood Springs to Carbondale <br /> on Colorado highway 51 then south to Redstone on Colorado highway 133. The Mine <br /> District office is 3.5 miles west from Redstone on pri.,rate roads. <br /> The purpose of this study is to meet stipulations presented to MIid Continent <br /> Resources, Inc. by the Colorado rLned Land Reclamation Board on August 31, 1979. , <br /> Morrison--Knudsen Company, Inc. became involved with this project on October 5, <br /> •1979. <br /> The nature of the stipulations involved the need for improvements on exist- <br /> ing sediiertation and drainage control structures for Mines 3, 4, and 5. All of <br /> these mines are underground mines with portals at high altitu& (10,000 ft.) and <br /> in very rcuntainous terrain. <br /> I-%-: thods <br /> Design cri.ter.La for the runes 3, 4, and 5 have been developed using U. S. <br /> Soil Conservation Service Methods. References used include; Determination of <br /> Peak Flows within Colorado (1977) , SCS Tectmical. Note 50 and r`atioral Engineer- <br /> ing Han&ook Nusber 4. <br /> The calculations are described in detail in the attached appendix.
