2007 Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
* Maintained silt fence adjacent to Pond 3 footprint site;
* Cleaned debris from culvert inlet adjacent to Pond 5 at mine site;
* Maintained small rock dams adjacent to the utility building at the mine site.
Map 1, Mine Site Reclamation, portrays the general location, dates, and areas of revegetation and
reseeding in and adjacent to the former Mine Facilities area. In addition, the map indicates the
locations of Mine Site reclamation activities completed during 2007. Dates of revegetation and/or
reseeding for the ancillary facilities areas and the Loadout area are shown on Map 2, Ancillary
Facilities Areas Reclamation, and Map 3, Loadout Area Reclamation, respectively.
Disturbed, Backfilled, and Topsoiled Areas
No additional areas were disturbed, Backfilled, or topsoiled during the reporting period.
Seeded or Planted Areas
During October, 2004, interseeding of approximately 6 acres at the Mine Site, comprising lands
owned by the Corley Company, was completed at the end of October. EFCI previously seeded and
mulched this area during site revegetation activities in October 2003. Due to some confusion in
dealing with the changing wishes and needs of two different landowners concerning seed mixes,
EFCI inadvertently applied an incorrect seed mix on the Corley property in 2003.
In order to correct the seeding (seed mixture) on the Corley property, EFCI submitted a plan to the
DMG proposing interseeding of the grass species Indian Ricegrass and Beardless Bluebunch
Wheatgrass. Upon approval, EFCI broadcast interseeded the referenced area (October 2004) at a
rate of 1.4 and 3.1 pounds PLS/acre of Indian Ricegrass and Beardless Bluebunch Wheatgrass as
was previously reported.
During the year 2004, EFCI planted shrub clumps in the reclaimed facilities and refuse disposal
areas at the Mine Site in accordance with permit requirements and in response to landowner
preference. Accordingly, during May 2004, approximately 1,800 plants were purchased from and
then planted by the Colorado State Forest Service. Based on a plan approved by the DMG (DBMS),
EFCI established a total of seven (7) shrub clumps (plots) on the refuse pile/Ponds 3 and 4 area, and
a total of five (5) shrub clumps in the facilities area. The approved shrub clumps were planted based
on following composition of seedlings:
