Marr Mine and Loadout
2007 Reclamation Report
4.0 ROADS
March 12, 2008
In the mine area, the width of both the main haul road and the access road across Bush Draw
were reduced in 1995. The remaining road segments are classified as permanent light-use
roads for post-reclamation access. Two additional rock dams were installed in the main road-
ditch west of the shop building and the main entrance road was regraded.
In 2005 Kerr requested that the temporary light use road status be changed to permanent for
the Pond G access road and 900 feet of the mine access extending from CR12E. The request
was in response to the BLM's ability to retain access to their adjacent surface properties.
Permanence was granted by DRMS during 2007.
5.0 TOPSOILING AND REVEGETATION
Ponds C and G, their associated soil stock piles and ditches were reclaimed in September 2006
(7.9 acres). The seed mixture was consistent with the approved permanent seed mix and was
drill-seeded at the prescribed rate. Following seeding, the areas were mulched with certified
weed free hay which was then crimped into the soil.
There were no activities in 2004 or 2005 associated with the top soiling or revegetation. Top
soiling and mulched seeding was conducted in 1999 on approximately 8 acres within the Mine
Area including the designated disposal area on the southeast edge of the shop/warehouse
facilities pad and the former powder magazine area, soil stockpile area, and associated road.
These areas were seeded in 2000 by inter-seeding the permanent seed mix (Table 67A) into
the standing mulch. The application rate was at the prescribed rate for both grasses (11.5
pounds per acre) and shrubs and forbs (5.75 pounds per acres). Four small areas were inter-
seeded during 2001, 2002 and/or 2003 to enhance vegetative growth including the southwest
corner of the Pit 1 area, the north end of the Marr Pit area, the ridge to the west of the Marr Pit
area (north end) and the slope northwest of Pond A.
6.0 NOXIOUS WEED CONTROL
All areas were inspected and weed control spraying completed in 2006. Spraying for thistle was
conducted in the same areas of concern monitored in recent years as listed below. The
chemicals used include Milestone (Aminophyralid) and 2-4-D to control occurrences of thistle
(primarily Canadian and scotch thistle).
Mine Area
• Bottom of the 720 Pit and Pit 1 reclaimed areas
• The ridge on the west side of the 720 Pit
• The margins of the mine shop area
• Along the main access road
Loadout Area
• Along the railroad right-of-way
• The vicinity of the shop building
• Pond Embankment
In 2004 and 2005, minor occurrences of thistle were hand dug and destroyed whenever they
were observed while conducting other field activities.
3
