Mining and Safety
Priola Pit - M-2007-087
Adequacy Review O1'
On behalf of my client Albert Frei and Soris, Inc., I will respond
to your adequacy review; in the order presented. We have continued the
decision date to June 1~,2, 2008 per our. discussion for time to. resolve
some of the items in your letter.
Rule 3.1.5 Reclamation Measures - Materials handlin_g
,Find attached the inert';filT affidavit ,for this mine. The backfll
material to be placed in the excavated area will be~ "Inert Material"
a as defined in Rule 1.1020). The. material placed from 2 .feet above. the
water line to the bottom of the excavated area will be a mixture of
crusher fines; and dirt mixed with minor amounts of aged concrete
fragments. This material.has no uni"que characteristics that would
cause it to have an imp'.;act on groundwater. Crusher fines are fine
materials-left from processing quarry rock we generate at another of
our mi"nes. Above this ',the fill material will be aged concrete, dirt,.
crusher fines, masonry products and asphalt. Any asphalt that is
delivered will be reserved and placed above the water line.
Rule 3.1.6 Water - General +'!Requirements ~ "
', --
1_) .The well"in question is, 12 feet deep while the others are in
access- of .300 feet. deep. There is no "communication" between the
aquifers 'for these deep well. The reason we stated the shallow
well would be removed is it lies within the mined area and will
be easier to removed than mine around. The"landowners' may choose
to replace this well once filling is complete or abandon it.
Thank you for the',~information on abandonment, we will advise them
of your concerns and~let them make the decision on that issue
when. the time comes. ~ -
2) No dewatering is planned for- this mine. As noted on page 10 of
the application, the water table lies 6 to 10 feet below the
surface. In Exhibit L we explained that 9 feet of fill would be
needed to fill"the below water area to ari elevation that is 2
~.
