III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
A significant gully has developed on an earthen pad constructed by the new shop area landowner, immediately
adjacent to the former office building location, just outside the permit boundary. Presently, drainage has been
diverted from the pad area so as to prevent erosion inside the mine permit disturbed area. This location will
need to be monitored and measures taken as necessary to prevent impacts within the mine permitted
disturbance area.
Backfill and Grading
Snow cover and limited access prevented detailed observations, as most portions of the permit area could not
be accessed.
Topsoil, Revegetation, Reclamation Success
Due to snow cover, limited access, and season, these topics could not be closely evaluated at this time. Grassy
slopes at lower elevations on west facing slopes visible from Road E had a "slicked down" appearance, as a
result of last years growth being matted down by the heavy snow cover, which only recently melted.
Fish and Wildlife
No deer or elk were observed in the permit area. Roy Karo stated that most of the deer and elk had apparently
migrated to lower elevation range to the west this year, due to the heavy snow cover, and had not yet returned.
4
