(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1978-168
INSPECTION DATE: 5/1/2008 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal program established by the Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety. The Pig Mesa Pit is located northeast of Delta, Colorado off of Fairview Road. The site is a
112c-phased operation. Mark Mewhinney of Delta County accompanied the inspector during the inspection.
The mine identification signs are in place and in compliance with rule 3.1.12. The signs are located on a post at the
main entrance at both mine locations. The permit boundaries are comprised of fences and berms that are easily
identifiable around the entire perimeter of the mine.
The pit is currently active. A loader was observed at the east Pig Mesa Pit. Various processing equipment was
observed at the west Pig Mesa Pit. Adequate amounts of topsoil and overburden appeared to be stockpiled for the
approved reclamation plan. Stockpiles of processed material were present during the inspection. Current total
disturbance at the east pit is estimated to be approximately 4 acres. Reclamation efforts were observed during the
inspection. Reclaimed slopes appeared to be no steeper than the required 3H:1 V.
No onsite or offsite stormwater erosion was observed during the inspection.
A noxious and/or problematic weed infestation was observed within the affected area. The infestation, if not
controlled, will most likely hinder and/or delay successful reclamation of this site and contribute to off-site,spreading
and establishment of these weeds. The approved weed control plan is either not being implemented or is not effective
in its current application. Please indicate what measures will be taken to improve weed control and, if appropriate,
submit a technical revision to incorporate these measures into the permit. Weed infestation is noted as a, problem,
with the corrective action(s) and correction date specified on the last page of this report. Significant progress toward
control of on-site weeds must be demonstrated within three years to avoid potential Board action. A copy of this
report will be sent to the appropriate weed control authority for this area.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the May 1, 2008 inspection are included at the end of this report.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Travis Marshall at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no.
970-623-5596.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Bob Kalenak
OPERATOR: Delta County
STREET: 501 Palmer Street, Suite 227
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Delta, CO 81416
cc:
?
