Hamilton Mine C-1991-078 16-Apr-08
III. COMMENTS-COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Marcia Talvitie of the Colorado DRMS. No
representative of the Operator was present during the field inspection.
Signs and Markers
The Mine Identification sign was posted on the County Road at the mine entrance, per
the requirements of subsection 4.02.02. Permit boundary signs and topsoil markers were
posted at appropriate locations throughout the permit area.
Roads
The main road was dry and in good shape. Mines 1 and 3, and Ponds A and B, were
accessible by vehicle. Portions of the road template leading to Mine 3 are still wide
(-20'), although vegetation has encroached upon the edges of the road.
Hydrologic Balance
Sedimentation Pond A -Water observed during the Mar-2008 inspection had completely
disappeared. The pond was dry.
Sedimentation Pond B - The water level appeared to be approximately one foot lower
than what existed during the Mar-2008 inspection (Figure 1). A small puddle was
observed at the outlet of the pond drain pipe, but this appeared to be standing water
(algae growth) rather than evidence of any recent discharge from the pond (Figure 2).
The culvert crossing the road to Mine 3 (below the stock pond) was clear and
unobstructed.
Topsoil
The Topsoil piles near Pond A and Mine Area 3 are clearly marked and well-vegetated
(Figure 3).
Fish and Wildlife
Mule deer were observed near the topsoil pile south of Mine Area 3. Signs of deer are
plentiful throughout the permit area.
Revegetation
Sage brush and rubber rabbit brush were beginning to foliate (Figure 4). Grasses were
also beginning to grow.
Reclamation Success
The majority of the permit area appears to be stabilized with respect to vegetative cover
arjd erosion. The side slopes on the southern end of Pond B are somewhat bare of
vegetation.
