Fiscus Pit Soil, Fertilizer, Mulch, and Re-Seed Plan
Seed mix:
BUffalO Grass (Texoka, Sharps Improved) 4.5 lbs. /acre
Little Bluestem 3.5 lbs./ acre
$IdeoatS Grama (Vaughn, Butte, Niner, EI Reno, Haskell) 2 IbS. /acre
BIUe Grama (Hachital, Covington)
4.5 lbs. /acre
Sand Dropseed
0.5 Ibs /acre
Total: 15 Ibs pls/acre
**Other addition: Mycorrhiza to coat the seed at time of planting.
Soil Preparation:
The mining plan includes stripping of topsoil from the area to be mined. This
topsoil will be segregated from other overburden and stockpiled for use in
reclamation (see mining plan Exhibit). North Fiscus pit reclamation will include
spreading and discing-in the stockpiled topsoil over disturbed areas. The
adjacent Fiscus pit site (1/2 mile to the south) has re-vegetated successfully
using the stockpiled topsoil removed from the mined area. At this time no
additional topsoil no soil amendments are is anticipated to be needed. However,
Weld County Public Works has access to topsoil and soil amendments, manure,
etc. should these materials be needed.
Fertilizer:
The adjacent Fiscus pit site (approx. 1/2 mile to the south) has re-vegetated
successfully. At this time no additional fertilizer or soil amendments are
recommended for the North Fiscus site.
Mulching:
After the disturbed area is reseeded, straw mulch will be crimped in at a rate of 2
tons/acre.
Prepared in consultation with: Tina Boonton, BS, MA,
Weed Supervisor ,Weld County Public Works
M:/Dave/FiscusPermits/DMG permit/fiscus Pit seed mix 2008.doc
