Please find the results of this review under the
respective headings below. Please take note of any questions or issues in bold text.
Sediment Ponds
The four quarterly reports meet the requirements of Rule 4.05.9(17). The first quarter report also
complies with the annual inspection required by Rule 4.05.9(14)-(15). A sediment survey was
suggested in the first quarter for pond 8 as conditions allow. Pond discharge was documented
in the 3rd quarter from pond 8 and pond 9A. Sediment was removed from pond 6 in the 4tn
quarter and pond 8 was field surveyed and sediment cleanout was recommended.
Excess Spoil Fills
Three excess spoil fills are inspected at the site. Each quarterly inspection report meets the
requirements of Rules 4.09.1(11). Minor repair in the west downdrain of Fill 8 was documented
in the 4th quarter.
Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR)
Pond discharge occurred in the third quarter from pond 8 and pond 9A. The operator requested
the storm exemption from total suspended solids as allowed for storm runoff less than or equal
to the 10-year storm event. Values of settleable solids confirm compliance with the alternate
limits (<.5 ml/I; measured .15 ml/I) No discharge was observed during any other quarter during
2007.
We have no further questions or concerns at this time. If you have any questions, please call
me.
Sincerely, ~~~ '~ /~
Kent Gdr-fpm
Environmental Protection Specialist II
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver Grand Junction Durango Active and Inactive Mines
