Seed Mix (Non-crop areas, permanent reclamation) for 112(c)
Permit Application for Mud Creek Pit, M-2008-010
Semi irrigated pasture mix:
SEMI-IRRIGATED PASTURE: This mix can be used where you have inconsistent
irrigation or at elevations higher than 7500 ft. This mix is also ideal for people who are
trying to attract deer or elk to their property. The drilled seeding rate is 18 pounds per
acre. If you were broadcasting this mix then the seeding rate would be 25 pounds per
acre.
20% Paiute Orchardgrass
10% Meadow Brome
10% Manchar Smooth Brome
15% Intermediate Wheatgrass
15% Sainfoin
10% Small Burnet
20% Annual Rye
100%
DRYLAND PASTURE: This is an inexpensive agriculture type seed mix for landowners
who need pasture for sheep, cattle, or horses and cannot irrigate. The higher the elevation
the better this mix will work. If the field is above 7500 ft then either the Semi-Irrigated or
the Irrigated pasture will work better because of the higher annual precipitation. The
drilled seeding rate is 15 pounds per acre. The broadcast seeding rate is 20 pounds per
acre.
25% Pubescent Wheatgrass
25% Smooth Brome
20% Paiute Orchardgrass
15% Crested Wheatgrass
10% Russian Wildrye
5% Annual Rye
100%
Seed available from Southwest Seed
Fertilizer: as determined at time of seeding.
Mulching (if used): 2 tons (4000 pounds) weed-free straw, per acre, crimped, or
aspen/birch excelsior, crimped or pinned.
