• The combination of the moderately dipping foliation and various joint set orientations creates
• the potential for localized areas of block raveling. The sections of poor rock observed in the
th
fr
i
i
li
ese
om
ng
ty ar
s
2007 mined areas in the North Quarry are localized areas and instabi
features is anticipated to be contained on bench surfaces. Based on our observations the
• overall slope conditions are considered stable, and warrant only operational considerations.
Mining began in the South Quarry in 2007 and as such, full highwall and bench development
• has not been achieved. Rock observed in the highwall was competent biotite gneiss,
• moderately to highly weathered due to surface proximity. Highwall orientations are
ect to
ith
bl
f
resp
e w
avora
approximately north to south and foliation and joint orientations are
this highwall development plan. While there is a potential for minor toppling, the overall slope
• condition is stable. Therefore, it is likely that slopes excavated steeper than the default
configuration (1:1 H:V) would have a low potential for slope instability.
•

-8-
• f:\3919_038Wnnual_Rcpott_2007\Gcotcch_Addcndum_2007\Annual_Rcport_2007_Gcotech.doc April 2008
