Memorandum in Response to Notice of Determination of Designation Mining Operation (DMO); DRMS File Numbers
M-]977-416, M-1978-039 HR, M-1977-285, M-1980-055 HR, M-1981-021 and M-1977-032.
previously, the rock hosting the ore body is the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison
Formation and it is not anticipated that the waste rock will be acid generating.
Because the waste rock is all generated from the same geologic member, Denison
proposes to take three representative. samples from each of the surfaces of the Sunday,
West Sunday and Topaz waste rock areas (nine samples total) and perform an Acid
Base Accounting (ABA) Test (from a certified lab) to demonstrate that the waste rock
from this member is not acid producing. Collection will occur once this procedure
has been agreed upon by the Division. Results of these tests will be provided to the
Division within one month of their collection.
In addition to providing information necessary to prepare the EPPs for the mines, it is
hoped that the foregoing sampling will provide enough information to enable Denison
and the Division to determine whether or not acid-mine drainage will occur as a result
of mining operations, which is one of the criteria tli'at must be addressed under Rule
7.2.6(1). '
With respect to toxic forming materials, Denison will also take three representative
samples from each of the waste rock areas at the Sunday, West Sunday and Topaz
mines (nine samples total) and perform a Meteoric Water Mobility Procedure
(MWMP) on the waste rock (performed by a certified lab). The MWMP will be
performed and analytes will be taken for the constituents shown in the table below:
Proposed Water Quality Analytes for Uranium
Mine Geo-Chemical Anal sis
Field H
Electrical Conductivi
Aluminum
Arsenic
Barium '
Cadmium '
Co er`
Iron
Lead
Mol bdenum
Nickel '
Nitrate + Nitrite
Selenium ~ '
Sulfate
Uranium
Vanadium
Zinc
Collection will occur once this procedure has. been agreed upon by the Division.
Results of these tests will be provided to the Division within one month of their
collection.
4
