(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-080
INSPECTION DATE 04/24/2008
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS DEZ
This inspection of Permit Number M-2000-080 (Pioneer Farm) was conducted by Deb E. Zack and Jared Ebert of the DRMS
and as part of the Division's routine monitoring protocol. Mike Ausburn, Vice President of Pioneer Sand Company, Inc was
present for this inspection. The pit is located approximately 14 miles southeast of Watkins, CO and currently consists of
approximately 315 acres, of which much less than the maximum of 36 acres appear to be involved inactive mining operations.
The mine entrance sign and permit boundaries were all clearly marked. The site was active and orderly at the time of this
inspection. Topsoil is stockpiled at the southwestern extent of the current disturbance, and the majority of the site remains
undisturbed. The only weed that appeared to exist on this site was Common Mullen. However, this weed appeared on the
currently undisturbed portions of the site - as seen in the photo 4. In addition, concurrent reclamation across the western
portion of the site has been occurring.
The operator also informed Division inspectors that there has been a phasing shift in the mine plan. Rather than mining west to
east across the site, the operator has opted to mine from the southern extent of the permit area to the north. This allows the
operator to confine noise and other mine activity-related disturbances to the portion of the site out of the neighbors' line of sight.
The Division commends the operator for this fore-thought and the implementation of this action.
All activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the guidelines and regulations set forth by the
state and in the mining and reclamation plans for the pit. The site is stable and no disturbance was observed outside of the
approved permit boundaries. At the time of this inspection there appeared to be no long-term (greater than 72 hours) water
retention.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Deb E. Zack at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety,
Denver Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4179.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME Mr. Mike Ausburn ^ gL
OPERATOR Vice President.
