Colowyo C-1981-019
16 April 2008
Pg 3/5
- The Gulch A Pond (NPDES 004A) contained water to the top of the riser and was
discharging from both the top of the pipe and from the weep hole at the bottom of
the discharge pipe at the time of the inspection. The water in the pond looked
muddy and the discharge also looked muddy. Ryan indicated that he had just
sampled the pond and the discharge looked the same. There appears to be a
good deal of sediment in the Gulch A Pond from the spring runoff. The trash rack on
the pond was covered in debris and it will need to be cleaned. This debris did not
appear to affect the functioning of the discharge pipe. The high water mark on the
pond was approximately one foot below the top of the emergency spillway. The
pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of
the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the
inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and well maintained,at the time of the inspection.
Goodspring Creek flows right past the Gulch A Pond embankment. The creek was
flowing very high at the time of the inspection.
- The Streeter Pond (NPDES 001 A) contained water approximately six inches below
the discharge pipe and was discharging through the weep hole at the time of the
inspection. The discharge appeared to be a bit cloudy. There was water flowing
into the Streeter Pond from the Streeter Fill perimeter ditch at the time of the
inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable
at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at
the time of the inspection. The discharge from the Streeter Pond enters Goodspring
Creek then flows through a large culvert under Colorado Highway 13. CDOT is
responsible for keeping this culvert clean and it does appear as though it has been
recently cleaned.
- The Section 28 Pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment
appeared to be stable. In past inspection reports it was noted that the pond
embankment has been seeded over the past fall but this was incorrect. The pond
embankment was not seeded but it is scheduled to be hand seeded this spring. No
erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
- The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet
below the top of the discharge pipe but was discharging a trickle from the weep
hole at the bottom of the pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and
appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open channel. The
spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There were no
erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the inspection.
- The East Taylor Pond (NPDES O1 OA) contained water approximately eight feet below
the top of the discharge pipe and one foot below the weep hole and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well
vegetated and appeared to be stable. The emergency spillway is a riprapped open
channel. The spillway appeared to be stable and functioning as designed. There
were no erosional problems noted on the pond embankment at the time of the
inspection.
