The majority of land south (left) of the permanent road, including the outslopes of Fill 7, was
reseeded in 2002 and 2004 and vegetation is becoming well-established in these areas. It is
typical at this site for vegetation to appear limited until the third growing season. The flatter
areas of C-1 and C-2 seem to have more rapid vegetation establishment due to shallow
slopes aiding in reduced runoff and water retention.
Downstream of the culverts under the permanent road in area C-1, spotted knapweed was
noted and treated last year (2007). Small knapweed rosettes were observed again during
this inspection in this area. These should be treated as soon as possible since early
treatment is very effective.
The inspection continued to the top of Fill 8 (seeded 2003) and into area N-1 (seeded 2004).
Both of these areas show awell-established plant community that appears successful to this
point. Areas reseeded more than three year prior do not show signs of rills and gullies that
have been a problem in the past. Hydroseeded areas to this point appear stabilized due to
mulch application but it appears too early to determine revegetation success on these areas.
Continued observation over this growing season may indicate how effective hydro-seeding
has been at this site.
Overall, the area appeared in good condition for the spring season.
4
