Along with this I have included calculations of the amount of
topsoil that will be stripped from the new expansion area. In addition,
I have calculated how much soil will be required to reclaim the final
pile configuration. As you will note, there is a shortage of 11,680
yards needed to reclaim the refuse pile.
However, several factors need to be considered when examining the
enclosed calculations. First of all, the actual topsoil sample depths
are averaged over the proposed expansion area. Past experience has
shown that there are numerous pockets of topsoil in this valley that are.
as much as four feet deep. Secondly, no topsoil samples were taken from
the extreme northern edge of the final pile configuration (since this
area is not being permitted at this time). The amount of soil which
will be stripped from this area may well make up the difference in the
stripped vs. replaced volume calculations.
In any event, as the numbers now stand we possibly need to make up
11,680 yards of topsoil. I am proposing that, if necessary, this soil
be borrowed from the new pond area (Drainage Area V on Map 2 of 4).
As shown in the enclosed calculations, there will be more than enough
topsoil borrowed from this area to reclaim the final pile. Because
this borrow area is the new topsoil storage area, there will be no
greater distance to transport soil to the pile.
88
