= 1 ;~
.,,_,,,
• Horizon Description
The soils as examined are similar throughout the area and vary only with
respect to depth. They may be defined as a typic Cryoboroll as derived from
Mancos shale. There is an insignificant layer of dark organic matter followed
by an A2 horizon dark brown in color (10 YR 2/1). The A2 horizon is vari-
able in depth, but is about 1 foot deep over the area. This is followed by a
Bl horizon which extends in places to about 2.5 feet deep. This is dark in
color (10 YR 2/2) and varies only slightly from the A2 horizon. This Bl
horizon overlies a C horizon which consists of Mancos shale fragments inter-
spersed with Sl material. The average depth of the soil to the C horizon is
about 20 inches. If this value is multiplied by the area involved, the volume
• of soil in question may be derived.
The entire horizon is derived from the Mancos shale. It is friable,
strongly blocky and cemented. Drainage is moderate.- Based on these
conclusions, the soil could be easily revegetated should it be disturbed.
Respectfully submitted by:
~J` `
Soltesco Soil and Water Consultants
Daniel F. Champion, Certified Soil Scientist
113
