The corresponding accelerations for Coal <br />Basin are < C.04 g, 0.04 g, and 0.11 g. <br />Based on these data, and in view of the character of the <br />waste pile material, the construction methods employed, the <br />character of the most probable failure mechanisms, and the risk <br />to life in the event of a pile failure, we consider that a design <br />horizontal earthquake acceleration of 0.05 g is appropriate for <br />this project.
