SEDIMENT CONTROL
The sediment control system will be broken down into three separate
areas : •
AREA 1. TUNNEL TO TRANSFER (See typical cross-section)
This area will be almost entirely reclaimed after construction: i.e.,
• both cut and fill slopes. The remaining area will include an access
road which will be re-seeded. Use of this road is estimated to be once
a week to inspect the belt. Each end of the belt (200' to 300') is
inside a sediment pond area. Special scrapers will be used to ensure
that the belt will run clean. It is requested that the actual belt
line, 6 to 8' wide x 3000' Long, or 0.55 acres, be given a small area
exemption. The access road adjacent to the belt line would be water-
barred to existing topography or every 100', whichever applies. The
-clean water (borrow ditch) would have a culvert. every 500 feet and/or
at natural drainages.
AREA 2. TRANSFER POINT
This area includes the main belt transfer to the No. 1 stockpile and
the No. 2 stockpile (see map). This area covers approximately 5.65
_ acres and would be added to Area 7 bus garage sediment pond system for
a total of 7.58 acres. The No. 2 pond (-008) would be enlarged 0.90
acre feet to accommodate the extra area. (See attached Pond drawings
and calculations.) (Current NPDES Discharge No. CO-0000396-008.)
AREA 3. N0. 1 MINE STOCKPILE AREA
This area would be designated as the No. 8 Sediment Pond System and
would cover the cut and all portions of the new No. 1 Mine stockpile.
The pond would be sized for the total disturbed area (8.61 acres) even
though a large portion (50 to 60 percent) will be revegetated following
construction. This pond will contain 1.38 acre feet of storage. (See
attached pond drawings and calculations.
An additional NPDES discharge permit (020) has been applied for. The
discharge will be into Coal Creek above the wash plant.
- 66
