The ma::imum water head pressure occurs against <br />seal no. 1. Calculations were made on the assumption that <br />the full' length of tunnel, behind the bul4;head, will fill <br />~•~ith ~~ater~. Calculations for seal strenght were based on <br />ti-~e assuR~pti on that the concrete and steel bul t:head woul d <br />fail in shear in a horizontal plane. <br />A ~36 inch concrete wal 1 can support a total force of <br />4,~G~>,~>~+V lb. before failure.
