DBMS CEl~~X M1977-208 Quarterly Report
Apri122, 2008
Page 3
but appears to be saturated media between the irrigation canals and C-Pit and stormwater
runoff.
To reduce water levels, CEMEX has purchased a new pump and motor sufficient to pump
water into the spray tower for use as cooling water. This is a consumptive use consistent
with all applicable permit (DBMS and CDPHE) conditions. The pump is installed and
began operation in the second quarter of 2008.
Wildlife Monitoring
Consistent with the mining permit and subsequent Technical Revisions, CEMEX has
monitored the C-Pit area daily for signs of wildlife, including the presence of tracks and
wildlife itself. Only pigeons and rabbits were observed in the vicinity of C-Pit. A net was
placed over C-Pit, which was damaged several times in high winds. The vendor designs
indicated the net would be sufficient to withstand snow and wind loadings for this area.
The net has been repaired and replaced several times to prevent wildlife from taking up
residence in C-Pit. However, at this point, the netting can no longer be repaired from wind
damage. CEMEX is requesting permission to remove this condition of the technical
revision since the pH levels in C-Pit have declined and stabilized significantly.
If there are any questions on the above information or the attachments, please contact me
at (303) 823-2115.
Sincerely,

Monica Sowders, CEMEX
Attachments:
1.
