III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This mine is in permanent cessation and
reclamation of most areas is complete. Ground conditions on this day were dry and the
weather was cool and windy.
Roads
The road ditches appear to have been graded and cleaned since the last inspection.
Culverts and riprap sections of ditches appear in functional condition.
Hydrologic Balance
Pond 4 and pond 5 were found dry. No significant snowfall or rain has occurred since the
last inspection. Both ponds appeared in good condition with no problems observed.
Fish and Wildlife
Evidence suggests elk continue to graze the reclaimed area. A small herd of about 12 elk
were observed immediately south of the reclaimed area.
Revegetation
Spring has arrived and
vegetation on the # 7
reclaimed area is
responding accordingly, a_
including some weeds.
Shown at right is Russian
knapweed, a noxious .
weed that can be a
problematic if not treated.
A number of plants were
noted in the areas ,
previously treated. The
operator should ensure
that this weed is treated
with herbicide as soon as ! I
possible.
Overall, the site appeared in excellent condition for the early spring season.
3
