season was 31.0 gpm on June 5, 2007. A hydrograph of the Pinnacle Adit flow at PP-
01 is provided as Figure 5. The spike in flows observed at PP-01 each spring are
likely a result of snowmelt and runoff from surrounding sources originating between the
Pinnacle plug and the PP-01 discharge point. Once the snowmelt period is over the
discharge at PP-01 decreases and stabilizes at normal levels.
4.3.4 Radium and Uranium Concenltrations at PP-01
Dissolved radium 226 and total ui
1994. After construction of the
dissolved radium 226 and total i
concentrations. A graph of the
provided as Figure 6. During 2(
remained at the reduced concer
period.
ium have been monitored at PP-01 since March
nnacle Adit plug in September 1995, both the
nium concentrations have stabilized at reduced
odium and uranium concentrations at PP-01 is
total uranium and dissolved radium 226 levels
~tions observed over the preceding twelve-year
' 4.4 Sediment Control Embankment
The safety and efficiency of the se Idiment embankment is monitored with a network of
' surface and subsurface systems. 'There are five (5) permanent survey monuments
where any physical movement of the embankment can be measured and nine (9)
piezometers have been installed to monitor the phreatic surface within the
embankment. Five of the piezometers were installed during the initial construction in
' 1980, and four of the piezometerswere completed in the core of the embankment in
2001. The 2007 monument survey was performed on October 20 and results indicate
the amount of vertical movement is minimal and within the range of survey error. No
significant vertical displacement has occurred since the initial settlement following
construction.
' Snow melt in the spring of 2007 was substantially down as compared to 2005, when
water stored in the sediment pond ~I~eached an elevation of 9893.5 ft amsl (6.5 ft below
the spillway). During 2007, the maximum water elevation in the pond was recorded at
' 9887.5 ft. amsl with the average elevation maintained at 9884.9 ft amsl. Seepage that
was observed on the downstream face of the embankment in June 2000, and
discussed in the 2000 and 2001 ~'~annual reports, has not reappeared following the
' repair work conducted in 2001. The monuments and piezometers will continue to be
monitored in 2008.

Pitch Reclamation Project
Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Board
2007 Annual
Reclamation Report
17
1
