site along with the planned concurrent reclamation of the pond edges would
return the proposed permit area to the approximate previous state as far as the
pasture area wildlife habitat is concerned plus creating the additional aquatic
and wetlands/riparian habitat. The "2 Ponds" would enhance the habitat
diversity for aquatics, small mammals and various birds and waterfowl species.
There will be no site activities involving the Yampa River. Since the proposed
permit area is located on private land, the impact on the various hunting seasons
would be minimal, as hunting activities for the general public would be limited
or not allowed at the site. A Notification Letter was sent to N.W. Regional
Manager for The Colorado Division of Wildlife, Grand Junction, Colorado
office requesting comments. Copies of the Request for Comments and the
D.O.W. response letters are attached to this exhibit.
DOW response comments/recommendations for the site as far as wildlife
concerns are as follows:
• Vehicle speeds should be kept to a maximum speed of 15 MPH the
road. Limit site traffic near dawn and dusk.
• Limit operations during the winter months to minimize impacts to
wintering deer and elk (January - March). The site and adjacent
areas are fenced.
• Re-vegetation of disturbed areas should be consistent with the sites
current native vegetation components. Non- native weeds to be
controlled.
• Create more mosaic reclamation on pond edges with irregular
shorelines, wetland vegetation species.
• Develop/complete the mining and reclaim the pond areas in the
shortest time frame possible.
• The DOW will be consulted as to future fish stock selections and
possible public access in the future.
