EXHIBIT J - Vegetation Information
1. Narrative Description
(a) Description of present vegetation types:
The proposed 62 acre permit area is currently a fenced pasture bounded on the
north by the riparian areas of the Yampa River. The pond excavation area
consists mostly of a flat mixed grass pasture. Areas to the north, beyond the
Deep Cut Ditch and along the Yampa River, are riparian, wetlands and or
water/Yampa River channel areas. There are cottonwood trees along the
river. A small grove of trees in the eastern pond /pasture footprint will not be
disturbed. They will be left as a small island in pond #2. The nominal north
boundary to the tract follows the centerline of the river channel.
All areas that are planned for excavation and reclamation to ponds (other than
the small tree grove) are currently pasture. Current vegetation is composed
mixed grasses consisting of various wheatgrasses, timothy and basin wildrye.
Current vegetation is composed mixed grasses consisting of various
wheatgrasses, timothy, basin wildrye and other varieties. The pasture/pond
excavation areas will be reclaimed to water surfaces.
Concurrent reclamation is planned for all the pond edges as each excavation
footprint/water surface area is developed over time. Slightly elevated
perimeter roads will be constructed for access to the ponds as part of the pond
edge concurrent reclamation activities. The landowner/applicant plans to add
additional trees, shrubs and other wetlands varieties, such as willows and
cattails, to the pond edges and perimeter road areas along with the normal
grass seed mix as part of the pond edge reclamation.
(b) Relationship of present types of vegetation to soil types.
The present vegetation is homogeneous across the site and not dependent on
soil type other than wetland areas by the river which will not be disturbed.
Current vegetation is composed mixed grasses consisting of various
wheatgrasses, timothy, basin wildrye and other varieties.
(c) Carrying capacity for pasture lands on or in the vicinity of the affected land.
• The possible carrying capacity ranges for the soil types (Ampay) found at
the site for normal characteristic vegetation in lbs/ac are as follows: 1)
Favorable year - 2000 lbs/ac, 2) Normal year -1700 lbs/ac, 3)
Unfavorable year -1500.
