DIVISION 2 -SITE WORK <br />SECTION 02290 -PLATFORM AND FILL AREA CONSTRUCTION <br />PART 1 -GENERAL <br />1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br />Construction working platform for the slurry wall construction and other fill areas as shown on the <br />drawings and specified herein, including foundation preparation, dewatering, fill placement, moisture <br />control, and compaction. This work is to be completed by the Owner prior to slurry wall construction. <br />1.02 RELATED WORK <br />Section 02168 -Slurry Wall Construction <br />PART 2 -MATERIALS <br />2.01 COMPACTED FILL <br />Compacted fill shall consist of random inorganic mixtures of sandy, silty clays to clayey, silty sands. Fill <br />material shall be classified SC-CL according to the Unified Soil Classification System with a minimum of <br />25% passing a #200 sieve. The materials shall be obtained from excavations, borrow areas, or other <br />sources. It shall be free of any deleterious materials, including materials larger than 5". Oversize rock <br />fragments shall be wasted. <br />PART 3 -EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />The foundation for each section shall be dewatered, stripped, and suitably prepared. <br />All cavities, depressions, and irregularities within the fill area shall be filled with compacted fill as <br />specified above. <br />3.02 DEWATERING <br />The Owner shall construct and maintain all necessary channels, flumes, drains, and related <br />structures; furnish all equipment required to remove water from various parts of the work; and maintain <br />foundations and other parts of the work in a state of dryness so as not to impede work activities, become <br />detrimental to related structures, or cause delays. <br />The Owner shall provide the dewatering system, if required. The dewatering system shall assure that the <br />adjacent facilities and any other work will not be damaged by dewatering operations. <br />Dispose of the water in a suitable manner without damage to adjacent property or without being a menace <br />to public health or without causing a public inconvenience or nuisance. <br />The water shall not be drained into work completed or under construction. <br />The dewatering operation shall continue until such time that it is safe to allow the water table to rise in the <br />excavation. <br />3.03 PLACING EMBANKMENT MATERIALS <br />No embankment material shall be placed in the fill area when either the material or the foundation or <br />embankment on which it would be placed is frozen. <br />02/06 Section 02290 -Page 1 of 2 <br />
