RECLAMATION PLAN
EXHIBIT I~
6.3.4 - Final grading will be such that the topography is
appropriate to the reclaimed use of the property, i.e., as range-
land. The overall slope of the mine will be left at the 2:1 rate
from the top of the mine to the floor. The floor of the mine have
a slight grade to preserve the natural drainage on the site per thE~
landowners wishes . The Reclamation Plan Map -Exhibit E-2 shows how we
envision the area will look when it is reclaimed.
Reclamation will begin as the exterior limit of the mine is
reached. As mining is completed on, the finished area will be
resoiled using any salvageable soils and seeded. Once mining is
done on an area and will not be disturbed again it will be resoiled
and prepared for seeding. We estimate the average depth of the
replaced topsoil will be 1-2 inches deep since very little soil
exist on the site.
The seeding mix and species of grasses to be used on the area
are shown on page 4 of this report. This is a seed mixture re-
quired by the USFS and is made up of native grasses and fortis that
has been used successfully on the Routt National Forest. The seed
will be obtain from a local supplier in the area so the mix is
adapted to local conditions. We also expect to see a natural
invasion of trees, fortis and woody plants from surrounding areas.
Grand County will work with the USFS on restoring trees on the
site. At this time we do not know if seedling trees or seed will
be used.
Fertilizer will be used to enhance the seed bed and the area
will be hydromulched per the USFS requirements. A mixture of grass
seed (25#/ac), a fertilizer mix of 18~ Nitrogen and 46~ Potassium
(250#/ac), Fibermulch (400#/ac) and water (1450 #/ac) will be used
to seed the prepared seedbed.
Seeding will occur in the fall (after October 1St) or the
spring after the last freeze but before May 1St. Revegetation will
be carried out in such a way, so as to establish a diverse, effec-
tive and long-lasting vegetative cover that is capable of self-
regeneration without continued dependence on irrigation, soil
amendments or fertilizers. The plan is to create a vegetative
cover that is at least equal in extent to the cover of the natural
vegetation before mining.
The landowner will be asked to avoid disturbing the site
during the first three years to insure the seed takes. After the
second growing season the site will be inspected and an assessment
of revegetation success will be done to determine if additional
seeding will be necessary. If the analysis shows additional work
is needed it will done that fall.
Weed control will be implemented prior to and during revege-
tation activities. This does not mean we will attempt to kill all
weeds, since some provide a natural ground cover and shade for
emerging grass. We will concentrate on controlling the noxious
weeds on the reclaimed area, following NRCS recommendations if a
problem occurs.
9 (revised 4/3/08)
-_ ._ L__
