4
We are extremely concerned that no one is accountable once this gravel pit is permitted
and approved- We are concerned that the county likes the idea for tax reasons, but onoe
they approve this, it's the State's headache. That attitude leaves many of us queasy about
what do we do when our wells are gone and the Yampa River, the city's source of
drinking water. is polluted. We are concerned about safety on State Highway 394, before
additional gravel trucks are added traveling 12 or more hours per day. This is a bad idea
for this partiieular location. There are far better places in Moffat County to install a
gravel pit.
We urge You to consider carefully this permit and to deny it for the reasons we have
outlined. Just an aside, one of the homes right across the road from this proposed gravel
pit is used as an advertisement by the Craig C`lramber of Commerce depicting how pretty
Craig is. Now, once the house starts vibrating from the digging, the cloud of dust
surrounds the area, and those good old trucks start down the road hitting innocent people,
animals and windshields with loose gravel, do you really tbi nk the Chamber can or will
still advertise this as a pretty, quiet, pastoral, serene, safe location. Don't thiuk so.
Please see Exhibit B. This is a picture of an uncovered gravel track going west on. State
Highway 394 and making a rigINt turn on to R,anney Street into town.
The Moffat 'County Commissioners plan on meeting with the gravel pit applicants who
are seeking approval of a conditional use permit on April 8, 200$. Time seems to be of
the essence.
Sincerely,
Concemed Citizens for the putum of Moffat County
Bob and Jo )Ellen Baca 970 524-7374
Gary and Judi Schnurr 480 5855646
Shane and Jinn Ridnour
