The Valley Vista Pit is located east of Highway 146, 5 miles southeast of Grand
Junction, Colorado. Alan Parkerson of Parkerson Construction, Inc. accompanied the inspector during the
inspection.
The mine identification sign and the affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with rule 3.1.12.
The sign is located on a post at the main entrance on the east side of the mine. The permit boundaries are comprised
offences and fence posts that are easily identifiable around the entire perimeter of the mine. Topsoil and overburden
were observed stockpiled at various locations of the mine.
The mine was active during the inspection. Current stockpiles were estimated to contain
approximately 70,000 tons of material. The operator stated that the Valley Vista Pit was their most active pit as far
as material being sold and processed. The main entrance was paved about half way up the access road to the mine
the remaining unpaved access road was stabilized by a water truck during the inspection.
The reclaimed slopes along the south permit boundary appeared to be no steeper than the required 3H:1 V.
The overall appearance of the pit area was free of unnecessary debris and trash. No evidence of major storm water
erosion was observed on or off site during the inspection.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the
approved reclamation plan, DRMS will update the reclamation cost estimate. The estimate will be forwarded to the
operator under separate cover.
