(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1985-219
INSPECTION DATE: 3/26/2008
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS THM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The 32 Road Pit is located at 32 and C1/2 Roads, east of Grand Junction,
Colorado. Alan Parkerson of Parkerson Construction, Inc. accompanied the inspector during the inspection.
The mine identification sign and the affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with rule 3.1.12.
The sign is located on a post at the main entrance on the south side of the mine. The permit boundaries are
comprised of fences that are easily identifiable around the entire perimeter of the mine. Topsoil and overburden
were observed stockpiled at various locations of the mine.
Removal of overburden at the east side of the mine had recently been conducted prior to the inspection. The
overburden is completely removed and sold prior to the excavation and processing of the gravel. A wheeled loader
and other miscellaneous equipment were located on site. Other equipment observed during the inspection was a
scale and scale house located in the northwest corner of the permit area. The main entrance had been improved and
paved since the last inspection. It was brought to the inspector's attention that a sprinkler system is used during
excavation to control dust. Excavation was not observed during the inspection so the effectiveness of the dust
control measures could not be assessed.
Reclamation at the southwest corner of the permit area has been completed according to the approved reclamation
plan except for the visual berms and slopes that are to remain until mining has been completed. The reclaimed
slopes along the south permit boundary appeared to be no steeper than the required 3H:1V.
Excavation has occurred around the house that is located in the center of the permit area. The structure is owned by
the operator and is currently used as a rental property. The structure's integrity did not appear to be compromised by
the mining operation. The structure will eventually be demolished and the knob that the structure resides on will be
mined to the existing grade of the pit floor.
Tamarisk was observed within the permit boundary. The Division recommends that the operator treats and/or
removes the tamarisk before it spreads throughout the permit area. The infestation was light and not seen as a
problem, however this is mentioned to use as a tool to monitor success of control and treatment during future
inspections. Guidelines for treatment of tamarisk were sent to the operator with the Orchard Grove Industrial Pit
inspection report.
The overall appearance of the pit area was free of unnecessary debris and trash. No evidence of major storm water
erosion was observed on or off site during the inspection.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the
approved reclamation plan, DRMS will update the reclamation cost estimate. The estimate will be forwarded to the
operator under separate cover. The last bond calculation was done in 2002.
Photos that show the conditions observed during the March 26, 2008 inspection are included at the end of this
report.
