Summary and Resolution of Interaction:
Bill Lyle called at 2:39 p.m. on Apri14, 2008 to report a spill incident at the San Luis Project that occurred
during the afternoon of Apri13, 2008. The brine pipeline that runs from the water treatment plant at the
west pit to the tailing pond has been blocked. Battle mountain personnel were excavating around the line
with a backhoe and punctured the line. Approximately 300 gallons of brine flowed out of the puncture into
the trench that had been excavated. The hoe operator used the excavated soil to absorb the spill and
transported the soil to the tailing area. The brine contains sulfate and fluoride. The incident occurred
approximately 300 yards east of the west pit. The brine was contained to the excavated trench.
The Division has determined that the telephone report meets the requirements of Rules 8.2.1 and 8.2.2.
Battle Mountain Resources will provide the written report required under Rule 8.2.3 on Monday, April 7,
2008.
