-2- <br />especially if the potential exists for flooding due to the obvious safety risk to the mine workers. I feel confident <br />that Northfield has every intention of avoiding any catastrophic water inflows to the workings from adjacent <br />underground workings. Mining at the Southfield operation is an example of where current day mining operations <br />were conducted in an area of extensive pre-law mining and existing workings. <br />Should unanticipated inflow occur, the Division has the authority to require changes in the monitoring plan, <br />modify water sampling requirements, and order cessation of mining and water discharge, if necessary. The mine <br />will be inspected on a monthly basis during operations and for years following mine reclamation as required by the <br />Coal Rules and Regulations. <br />Thank you for your comments.
