The discontinuation of mining operations has eliminated pumping and dcwatcring of Pit #1 which <br /> was anticipated to increase water levels in the down dip Wells 1, IA, 1B and 1C. <br /> ' Analysis of groundwater quality from the monitoring wells in the Pit #1 area indicated that the water <br /> is of a sodium sulfate to sodium bicarbonate type with high sodium and sulfate concentrations. Well 113 <br /> is a sodium sulfate to sodium hydroxide type water. All analyses were generally consistent with previous <br /> samplings. Analyses of metals for these wells are all within acceptable limits. Results of all water quality <br /> analyses are presented in Appendix 1. Graphs for well water quality parameters of TDS, SAR, ammonia, <br /> and pH are exhibited in Figures 2 through 5. <br /> Well 7, located in the reclaimed area, was dry during the 1984 samplings, however, has had water since <br /> then. Water level in Well 7 may indicate the development of a spoils aquifer which may be due to the <br /> general increase of pit water in the adjacent up dip kerr surface mine and WFC's pit down dip of the well. <br /> The water which was sampled indicates a sodium bicarbonate type. This water exhibits a better quality then <br /> that sampled in the down dip wells and has a lower degree of ionization with lower TDS and metal <br /> concentrations. <br /> ' NPDES SAMPLING <br /> ' Surface water runoff from the disturbed areas of the mine was passed through one of the three <br /> sedimentation ponds prior to discharge. NPDES reports were filed with both the Water Pollution Control <br /> Division of the Colorado Department of Health and CMLRD.
