0 0
RULE 2.41(3): THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES IN THE
VARIOUS STAGES OF RECLAMATION (BACKFILLED, GRADED, TOP30IL
REPLACED, REVEGETATED).
All of the operation is currently in some stage of
reclamation. About 25 acres is under revegetation with the
remaining acreage in various stages of reconfiguration,
grading, backfilling, and topsoiling.
RULE 2.41(4): THE SPECIES OF VEGETATION PLANTED, THE
LOCATIONS AND APPROXIMATE DATES OF PLANTING.
Prior to seeding, all areas placed under revegetation
this past year were first topsoiled with from 4" to as much
as three feet of soil. It is estimated the average so:.l
depth is about B" to 10 ", but the average is very diff:tcult
to estimate as the soil depths are highly variable. All of
this soil was donated from various construction projects
throughout Colorado Springs, but mainly from the Mountain
Shadows housing development area a few miles by road from
the quarry.
Seeding was performed by broadcasting the mixture
approved under a technical revision in March /April 1990.
Seeding occurred on May 8, May 11, and May 18.
RULE 2.41(5): THE TYPE AND APPROXIMATE QUANTITY OF
FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND
LOCATION OF USE.
Because most of the soil spread on the quarry was of
excellent quality no soil amendments were utilized. Weeds
may be a problem and fertilization at the time of seeding
usually encourages weed growth. As the vegetation develops
it will be watched closely for the morphological
manifestations of nutrient deficiencies. Fertilizers will
be added as needed.
RULE 2.41(6): AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION
EFFORTS, AND IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT
NARRATIVE ON THE SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCH
FAILURE.
Past annual reports have extensively discussed the
general lack of success in revegetating all but the top of
this quarry. This lack of success has led to the action of
acquiring topsoil for the site by contributions from the
community. As of this time, no appraisal can be made of the
amount of success that will occur through the use of soil,
but it certainly shold be considerably better than what has
occurred in the past.
