COVER <br />(Table 7) <br />Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Mountain Brush Reference Area, <br />contributing 58.'I percent toward total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, Gambel's oak (Quercus <br />gambelii) contrik~uted 27.4 percent, Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) contributed <br />13.5 percent, grid mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius) contributed 12.4 percent. <br />Also observed in the area was houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale). <br />Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 74.0 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total <br />average cover fcr first hits was 13.4 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and <br />rockaveraged 1.2, 15.5, 9.5 and 0 percent, respectively. Average species density was 30.2 <br />species per 100~sq. m. <br />PRODUCTION <br />(Table 8) <br />Total herbaceous production in 2007 was 542.5 pounds per acre. Native perennial cool season <br />grasses and native perennial forbs were most prolific, contributing 383.6 and 108.9 pounds per <br />acre, respectively. <br />Sagebrush Reference Area <br />(Photographs 21-25) <br />COVER <br />(Table 9) <br />Native perenni~~l cool season grasses was the predominant lifeform observed in the Sagebrush <br />Reference Area, contributing 24.1 percent toward total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, (Festuca <br />saximontana) contributed 12.5 percent and (Poa agaassizensis) contributed 5.4 percent. <br />Additionally nai:ive shrubs contributed 23.3 percent toward total first-hit vegetation cover. Of this, <br />big sagebrush ~(Seriphidium tridentatum) contributed 11.8 percent and mountain snowberry <br />(Symphoricarp~~s rotundifolius) contributed 8.9 percent. Native perennial forbs also made <br />moderate contributions to cover with 14.2 percent. <br />11 <br />
