(EEC) personnel have completed preliminary
laboratory testing on overburden soil and bedrock samples collected for the referenced
project. We understand the Kehn aggregate pit east of LCRS is to be lined for
containment of augmentation water at the conclusion of mining operations. To
preliminarily evaluate the suitability of on-site materials for use in developing a low
permeability pond liner, EEC personnel sampled the site overburden soils and bedrock
and conducted preliminary laboratory tests. The purpose of this report is to present the
results of our laboratory testing and to provide preliminary recommendations for
developing glow-permeability pond liner at the referenced gravel pit.
On June 9, 2003, EEC personnel visited the Kehn gravel pit and collected samples of the
overburden soils and shale hedroclc. Those samples were returned to our Fort Collins
laboratory for classification testing. The testing included Atterberg limits and minus 200
washes on the overburden soils and bedrock. The following are the results of the
laboratory testing conducted by EEC personnel:
Material
Overburden
Liquid Limit
47
45
Plastic Limit
29
Percent Fines
86.2
99.6
Bedrock
27 "
CENTRE FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
- 2301 RESEARCH BOULEVARD, SUITE 104
FORT COLLINS, COLORADO 80526
(970) 224-1522 (FAX) 224-4564
