This is a renewal request for a plan
approved by the State Engineers Office (SEO) by letter of April 16, 1998 and subsequent renewal
requests from Don Kehn Construction on March 17, 2000 and February 9, 2001. A gravel pit well
.permit application was approved in 1.998 as Permit Number 49719-F.
1.0 ~ BACKGROUND
The Timnath Pit site is located in Larimer County off of LCR 5 south of the Town of
Timnath west of tl ~e Cache La Poudre River (Poudre River). The site is located on the S W '/4 of
Section 11 and the :[~ %2 of Section 14, Township 6 North, Range 68 West, of the 6th P.M. A vicinity
map is provided as Figure 1.1.
The Timnath Pit is a commercial operation that provides aggregate for asphalt and concrete
paving plants on the site. Mining of the site began in 1994 with the approval of a 404 permit by the
Army Corps of Engineers and is currently approaching the completion of the initial phase. Mining
will continue through four-more phases until the entire property has been mined and reclaimed by the
year 2015.
Mining operations in the Timnath Pit take place primarily three months a year during
December, Januar`~ and February.. During this time material is stockpiled for processing into
aggregate throughout the year. Processing occurs continuously with the rate picking up during
summer months and falling in winter months. Exposed groundwater is pumped year around for use
in pit operations.
Consumpti~~e uses at the Timnath Pit include evapo_ rative losses from exposed groundwater,
moisture lost in mined material, and water used for dust control, gravel washing, and equipment
washing. Replacements for the ground water depletions caused by mining operations will be made
C:~Projects\CODKCO1Wdmin~DKC 2006 SWSP Application.doc 1 Scott Water Engineers
