• The locations of the 15 cover transects sampled on this site are shown on Map 3B, Mine
Facilities Area -Vegetation Transect Location Map. Copies of the individual field data sheets for
the plant cover sampling of this site are found in Appendix A -Copies ofJuniper-Grassland
Predisturbance Area -Plant Cover Field Data Sheets. The sample adequacy calculations in Table
2, Northfield Mine Sample Adequacy Calculations, document that the number of samples
required to describe this site for total plant cover at the 90 percent confidence interval was 8.8
transects.
Production. The results obtained from the 44 production transects sampled on this site are
found in Table 4, Juniper-Grassland Predisturbance Area -Production. The average total
production on this site was determined to equal 26.87 g/1/4mZ or 958.9 pounds of air-dry forage
per acre. Perennial grasses contributed an average of 19.52 g/1/4m2 or 72.65 percent of the total
herbaceous forage production. Perennial forbs contributed an average of 7.35 g/1/4m2 or 27.35
percent of the total herbaceous production.
The locations of the 44 production transects are shown on Map 3B, Mine Facilities Area -
Vegetation Transect Location Map -Vegetation Transect Location Map. Copies of the original
field data' sheets for this area are found in Appendix B -Copies of Juniper-Grassland
Predisturbance Area -Production Field Data Sheets.
Shrub Density. The shrub density counts obtained from the 45 belt transects taken in this area
are summarized in Table 5, Juniper-Grassland Predisturbance Area -Shrub Density. The average
• shrub density was determined to equal 7.02 shrubs per 100 m2 or 284.1 woody plants per acre.
Fourwing Saltbush (Atriplex canescens) and Skunkbush Sumac (Rhos trilobata) were the most
commonly encountered shrubs, averaging 2.36 and 1.89 shrubs per 100 m2 or 95.5 and 76.5
shrubs per acre, respectively.
The locations of the 45 production transects sampled on this area are shown on Map 3B, Mine
Facilities Area -Vegetation Transect Location Map. Copies of the field data sheets
corresponding to this site are found in Appendix C -Copies of Juniper-Grassland Predisturbance
Area -Shrub Density Field Data Sheets. Examination of Table 2, Northfield Mine Sample
Adequacy Calculations, reveals that sample adequacy at the 90 percent confidence interval was
equal to 40.0 transacts.
Species Diversity. The percent relative composition or cover values in Table 3, Juniper-
Grassland Predisturbance Area -Plant Cover, documents that on this site there were a total of
four perennial plants contributing more than five percent to the total relative cover on this site,
Blue Grams, Red Threeawn, One-seeded Juniper, and Prickly Pear Cactus; which contributed
21.16, 17.35, 9.43, and 7.31 percent, respectively to the total plant cover on this site.
DISTURBED PREDISTURBANCE AREA
Cover. The results obtained from the 15 cover transacts sampled on this site yielded an average
total plant cover value of 39.87 percent and litter averaged 20.67 percent (Table 6, Disturbed
Predisturbance Arca -Plant Cover.)
• 6
