RJA/LVYH/DJP <br />11/2000 <br />NM+CO UT <br />SEDILLO SERIES <br />The Sedillo series consists of very deep, well drained, moderately slowly permeable soils that formed in <br />gravelly alluvium. Sedillo soils are on bajadas, piedmonts, fan terraces and stream terraces. Slopes are 0 <br />to 60 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 11 inches and the mean annual temperature is <br />about 52 degrees F. <br />TAXONOIti~C CLASS: Loamy-skeletal, mined, superactive, mesic Ustic Calciargids <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Sedillo very gravelly loam--rangeland. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise <br />noted.) <br />A--O to 3 inches; brown (7.SYR 5/4) very gravelly loam, dark brown (7.SYR 3/4) moist; weak fine <br />subangular blocky and weak fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky and <br />nonplastic; many very fine roots; common very fine interstitial pores; 40 percent pebbles; moderately <br />alkaline; clear smooth boundary. t2 to 5 inches thick} <br />Btl--3 to 9 inches; reddish brown (SYR 4/4) very gravelly clay loam, dark reddish brown (SYR 3/4) <br />moist; moderate fine subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, sticky and slightly plastic; many <br />very fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; common thin clay films on faces of peds, pebbles, and <br />lining pores; 55 percent pebbles; slightly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (4 to 9 inches thick) <br />Bt2--9 to 16 inches; brown (7.SYR 4/4) very gravelly clay loam, dark brown (7.SYR 3/4) moist; <br />moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly stickry• and slightly plastic; <br />many very fine roots; common very fine tubular pores; few thin clay films on faces of peds, pebbles, and <br />lining pores; 40 percent pebbles; moderately alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 12 inches thick) <br />Bk1--16 to 23 inches; brown (7.SYR 5/4) very gravelly sandy clay loam, dark brown (7.SYR 4/4) moist; <br />weak medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; <br />many very fine roots; many very fine tubular pores; 40 percent pebbles; strongly effervescent with few <br />fine soft masses of lime and thin lime coatings on bottom of pebbles; moderately alkaline; clear smooth <br />boundary. (0 to 8 inches thick) <br />Bk2--23 to 50 inches; pinkish gray (7.SYR 7/2) very gravelly sandy loam, brown (7.SYR 5/3) moist; <br />massive; hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine roots; many very fine tubular pores; 55 <br />percent pebbles; discontinuous lenses of cemented caliche; violently effervescent with many soft masses <br />of lime and moderately thick lime coatings on pebbles; strongly alkaline; clear smooth boundary.
