Steeply sloping foothills of the Wet Mountains bound
the mesa to the west and southwest. The mesa is dissected by
northeasterl~~ intermittent drainages or dry stream beds that flow only
during severe storm events with headwaters in the Wet Mountains.
The terrain vvithin the permit area is composed of several mesa tops
and small riclges. The elevation ranges from approximately 5200 to
6000 feet.
Geologic Structure
The General Area is located in the physiographic area known as the
Canon City-f~lorence Basin. This area is a structural basin bounded on
the west and south by the over thrust faults of the Wet Mountains, and
the north by the Front Range uplift. This basin is asymmetric, gently
dipping from the east with moderate to steep dips on the west
corresponding to the Wet Mountain over thrust shown below on Figure
1, Geologic Structural Setting.
The Permit ~~rea rests inside the eastward bend of the Chandler
syncline between Sand Creek and Chandler Creek. The Chandler
Ridge, a fingier of the Wet Mountains, lies to the south. The Arkansas
River lies between one to two miles north of the mine site, depending
on specific location on the site.
2.04-7 Revised 5/01/07
